This week’s list includes Cambodian releases, Indonesian horror opening in Malaysia, a new Kannada horror-thriller, and a Japanese horror film plus a few more, and as always, I am including releases that are getting a new release in a new country.

This one seems much more comedy than horror, but since it’s been called a horror-comedy, I will include it – Alfian, a corpse make-up artist who can see spirits, meets Maya, a dead influencer who believes she was murdered, and agrees to investigate her death in return for help contacting his own deceased mother.

A group of college students head to an old villa for a weekend, but their plans collapse when one of them is murdered, and when they try to escape through the surrounding forest, they find their way blocked by supernatural forces – also known as The Draft, it originally premiered at the 18th Jogja-NETPAC Asian Film Festival (JAFF), where it won awards for Best Film, Best Editing, and Best Storytelling.

Also known as Get Undressed, this one has been described as an erotic horror-thriller film, which also marks the highly anticipated return of the “Shochiku Extreme Selection” label – The film deviates from traditional J-horror tropes by introducing an absurdly high-stakes, unique survival rule: “If you wear clothes, you die instantly”.

About The Author

I am a fan of movies in general and watch quite a few every week, but my love for Asian horror started in the 90’s during the J-horror boom – you know the ones – and ever since then I’ve been hooked on discovering horror from across Asia, from the classics everyone knows to the hidden gems that deserve a much bigger audience.

On this site I explore Asian horror movies from across Japan, South Korea, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Taiwan, Cambodia, Malaysia, and beyond, since the big entertainment sites tend to focus only on the biggest releases.
