Japanese-Taiwanese horror The Curse (ザ・カース) is getting its Japanese DVD release on October 7, 2026 – released in Japanese cinemas on January 16, The Curse is a 94-minute horror film produced between Japan and Taiwan, and the DVD will be released as a limited first edition for ¥3,960 including tax.
The story begins in Tokyo, where hairdresser Riko, played by Yukino Kaizu, notices something seriously wrong in a social-media post belonging to her Taiwanese friend Shufen, where a disturbing woman appears in the background of a photograph alongside a threatening message.
Things get stranger when Riko discovers that Shufen actually died six months earlier, and the curse is connected to videos showing a paper doll being struck with a wooden mallet, with the supernatural threat spreading through social media before eventually reaching Riko herself.
Kaizu will probably be familiar to some viewers from her television work, including appearances in Dear Radiance and Netflix’s Tokyo Swindlers, while YU is a Japanese-Taiwanese singer-songwriter who also has a background in acting.
The DVD itself includes 97 minutes of bonus footage, consisting of a Taiwan food documentary featuring members of the cast, and the main feature is presented in Japanese and Chinese stereo, with the movie running 94 minutes, with the disc a Region 2 NTSC, so collectors outside Japan will want to check their equipment before ordering.
