Kiyoshi Kurosawa and Takashi Shimizu Among Six Directors Adapting Japanese Horror Series Night Tales Club for Disney+

Kiyoshi Kurosawa

Japanese horror fans have a good reason to keep an eye on Disney+ next year, with Night Tales Club, a new supernatural mystery series adapting the bizarre short stories of horror author Ichi Sawamura, set to arrive on the streaming platform in January 2027.

The six-episode series brings together a collection of Japanese filmmakers, including Cure director Kiyoshi Kurosawa, Ju-On filmmaker Takashi Shimizu and Gannibal director Shinzo Katayama – Yukiko Sode, Yuichiro Sakashita and Yosuke Nakamura are also directing episodes, with each filmmaker taking on one of the six stories being adapted.

The series is based on Sawamura’s 2024 collection Atama no Ookina Keminai Kōmori: Ichi Sawamura Igyō Tanpenshū, published by Kobunsha, where the book contains eight short stories, six of which are being adapted for the screen, with Sawamura himself writing the scripts.

Night Tales Club will premiere exclusively on Disney+ in January 2027.

The first teaser is already available, too.

About The Author

I am a fan of movies in general and watch quite a few every week, but my love for Asian horror started in the 90’s during the J-horror boom – you know the ones – and ever since then I’ve been hooked on discovering horror from across Asia, from the classics everyone knows to the hidden gems that deserve a much bigger audience.

On this site I explore Asian horror movies from across Japan, South Korea, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Taiwan, Cambodia, Malaysia, and beyond, since the big entertainment sites tend to focus only on the biggest releases.
