FrightFest is back this August, and while the UK’s biggest horror festival is packed with genre movies from around the world, horror fans looking towards Asia also have plenty to get excited about – the five-day event runs from August 27 to August 31 at Leicester Square, bringing a huge lineup of international horror, fantasy and cult cinema.
Among the biggest Asian highlights is COLONY, the latest zombie horror from South Korean filmmaker Yeon Sang-ho, the director behind the modern classic Train to Busan, where the film will screen as part of the festival alongside a special 10th anniversary celebration of Train to Busan and its animated prequel Seoul Station.
But COLONY isn’t the only Asian genre title heading to FrightFest 2026, either.
Indonesian horror fans will get a chance to see Ghost in the Cell, the latest supernatural nightmare from filmmaker Joko Anwar, the director behind Satan’s Slaves and Impetigore – known for blending folklore, family drama and brutal horror, Anwar has become one of Southeast Asia’s most exciting genre filmmakers.
South Korean horror also returns with Salmokji: Whispering Water, directed by Lee Sang-min, where the movie arrives at FrightFest after becoming one of South Korea’s biggest horror hits, earning the title of the country’s highest-grossing horror film.
Japanese cult horror fans are also being treated to something special, with brand-new remastered screenings of Crazy Lips and Gore from Outer Space – both films are bizarre genre oddities that mix outrageous comedy, gore and surreal horror in true midnight movie fashion.
