Style and Presentation
This is a dark revenge horror that blends psychological, supernatural, and visceral horror into a single narrative.
Rather than centring on a traditional ghost story, the film follows one woman’s emotional collapse as grief, trauma, and rage become intertwined with demonic forces, where the horror grows increasingly brutal as Balqis gives herself over to revenge, with graphic violence playing a much larger role than in most recent Malaysian horror films.
Cultural Context
Malaysian horror often explores black magic, spirit possession, and religious themes, but Nar’sata: Sekutu Setan takes a different approach by combining those elements with a revenge thriller.
Director Pierre Andre has described the film as a deliberate attempt to bring more psychological gore and visceral horror to Malaysian cinema, drawing inspiration from international revenge horror while grounding the story in local spiritual beliefs.
