Hospitals are already pretty creepy places at the best of times, especially when you’re working the night shift, so Gudang Merica does not exactly have to work very hard to find an uncomfortable setting- the film takes that familiar environment and throws a bunch of medical interns into a mystery involving a dead accident victim, strange happenings and a trail that leads somewhere none of them were expecting – while still making room for plenty of comedy along the way.
A Night Shift That Gets Very Strange
Gudang Merica centres on Adit, a medical intern completing his placement at Rumah Sakit Harapan Kita Hospital, a struggling facility where keeping the place operating is already becoming difficult, but things take a turn when an unidentified accident victim is brought into the hospital and eventually dies while under the interns’ care, and what initially appears to be a tragic incident soon becomes something much harder to explain.
Rather than simply walking away from the mystery, the group starts following clues, where their investigation gradually takes them away from anything resembling a normal medical problem and into a situation involving unexplained supernatural events.
That gives the film its central conflict – a group of people trained to search for rational explanations suddenly finding themselves confronted with things that don’t fit neatly into what they know.

Gudang Merica is an Indonesian horror comedy directed and written by Imam Darto, with Sesa Nasution and Warman Nasution also credited as writers, and the cast includes Ardhito Pramono, Zulfa Maharani, Fatih Unru, Arla Ailani, Benidictus Siregar, Rizky Inggar and Mister Aloy.
The film was produced by MVP Pictures and Pabrik Cerita, and was released in Indonesia on 21 May 2026. It has a runtime of approximately 98 minutes, and that relatively compact running time should suit the material too – there is a mystery to uncover, a group dynamic to maintain and enough supernatural chaos to keep things moving without needing to turn the hospital into an enormous mythology.
A Horror Story Built Around a Medical Setting
There is something particularly useful about the hospital setting in Gudang Merica because it gives the film two completely different languages to work with – on one side you’ve got medicine, death and clinical explanations, while on the other you’ve got a mystery that increasingly refuses to behave according to those rules.
That gives the supernatural material a purpose beyond simply putting ghosts in a hospital – the characters’ profession actually matters to the story because their understanding of the world is being challenged by what they encounter – it also places the film within a recognisable strand of Indonesian genre cinema that is comfortable mixing horror with comedy rather than treating the two as completely separate things, so Gudang Merica appears to be using that flexibility to make its supernatural mystery entertaining as well as unsettling.
Why It Could Be Worth Watching
If you like horror comedies, Gudang Merica has a fun enough premise, and the film also has a nice advantage in its group dynamic, because the characters can bounce between scepticism, confusion and outright disbelief as the mystery develops, rather than beginning the story already convinced that something supernatural is happening.
It is probably better suited to viewers looking for mystery, supernatural weirdness and comedy alongside the horror than anyone expecting an unrelentingly frightening ghost movie, but the combination of the medical setting and the central investigation gives Gudang Merica enough of its own identity to make it an interesting Indonesian horror release.
