The Mask One: Faceless Turns a Cambodian Ghost Hunt Into a Nightmare About Losing Your Identity

The Mask One: Faceless poster

Ghost hunters chasing viral content into a Cambodian jungle, with an entity that doesn’t merely want to kill them – it wants to turn its victims into something else entirely – that’s the premise for The Mask One: Faceless

The Cambodian supernatural horror film centres on a famous ghost-hunting vlog crew who enter a remote jungle to investigate a mysterious disappearance – they bring cameras, investigate the local supernatural activity and, predictably, discover that the thing they came looking for isn’t some easily debunked YouTube hoax, and when a young medium joins the group, her presence becomes increasingly important as the expedition turns into a fight for survival.

The entity lurking in the forest is also connected to masks made from lost souls, with the film’s mythology revolving around identity, deception and what happens when a person’s sense of self is stripped away – the film has a 90-minute runtime and is listed as a Cambodian production with English as its primary language and Khmer and English among its spoken languages.

Meet the Filmmaker and the Faces Behind the Masks

Jeremiah Kipp directs the film and co-wrote the screenplay with Bun Channimol, who also receives credits for the original story and serves as producer, while IMDb’s production credits list Channimol as creator, original-story writer, writer and producer, while Kipp is credited as director and writer.

The principal cast is relatively small –

  • Ryan Bertroche
  • Holley Johnson
  • Bella Mraz
  • James Preston

Lisette Santana is credited as the film’s special-effects makeup artist, which is a particularly relevant crew credit given the film’s emphasis on faces, masks and physical transformations, and the movie comes from Sastra Film, the Cambodian production company behind the project.

Sastra presented The Mask One: Faceless at FILMART 2026 in Hong Kong, where it held its world premiere on March 18 as part of the company’s international market push – some international databases still list the Cambodian release as 2027, while IMDb’s current public listing says “Expected 2027′, but Legend Cinema is currently listing the movie for August 20, 2026 in Cambodia.

The Horror Is Really About Recognition

This is probably the film’s strongest concept on paper, as most supernatural horror is concerned with death, butThe Mask One: Faceless appears more concerned with what comes after identity has been taken away – the film’s official market description talks about masks created from lost souls, while the more detailed synopsis describes victims being subjected to face-erasing murders and an ancient entity threatening to trap the group in an endless loop, which gives the title Faceless much more meaning.

That’s a useful idea for a horror film about YouTubers, too, because these characters are literally people who have built their presence around being seen, so something that removes faces is almost perfectly matched to a group whose entire business is putting themselves in front of one, while the film’s appearance at FILMART 2026 is also significant because The Mask One: Faceless wasn’t merely announced as another Cambodian horror release, as Sastra used one of Asia’s major film and television markets to present it to international buyers.

Although the film is Cambodian and its listed spoken languages include Khmer and English, English is listed as its primary language, making it considerably easier to position for audiences outside Cambodia than a production aimed exclusively at the domestic market, and I have to say, a supernatural killer whose whole gimmick involves faces and identity, is a fairly intriguing one, so I am certainly looking forward to watching this one.

About The Author

I am a fan of movies in general and watch quite a few every week, but my love for Asian horror started in the 90’s during the J-horror boom – you know the ones – and ever since then I’ve been hooked on discovering horror from across Asia, from the classics everyone knows to the hidden gems that deserve a much bigger audience.

On this site I explore Asian horror movies from across Japan, South Korea, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Taiwan, Cambodia, Malaysia, and beyond, since the big entertainment sites tend to focus only on the biggest releases.
