Khekpa: The Hunt

Plot

A group of friends travel into the remote Bhutanese wilderness for what is meant to be a hunting expedition and outdoor trip.

But the journey quickly shifts when they begin to notice signs that something — or someone — is already moving through the terrain ahead of them.

What starts as a routine survival outing slowly turns into a deadly situation as members of the group begin disappearing one by one in the forest.

Cut off from help and surrounded by unfamiliar mountain territory, the remaining survivors are forced to keep moving deeper into the wilderness just to stay alive.

But it soon becomes clear they are not alone, and whatever is hunting them is far more organised and aware than they expected.

Style and Presentation

This is a survival slasher set in the Bhutanese wilderness, using natural terrain as the primary source of tension.

The horror escalates through pursuit and isolation rather than supernatural elements, focusing on the fear of being tracked in an environment where escape routes are limited and visibility is constantly reduced.

The tone leans more toward grounded slasher mechanics than folklore-based horror, with emphasis on human vulnerability in extreme conditions.

Cultural Context

Bhutanese cinema is still an emerging industry, often focusing on small-scale productions that rely heavily on landscape and realism rather than large genre effects.

Khekpa: The Hunt fits into a newer wave of Bhutanese genre filmmaking where thriller and horror elements are blended with survival storytelling.

Instead of relying on myth or spirits, it uses environment, isolation, and pursuit to build fear in a very physical and immediate way.
