There are now 117 volumes of Honto ni Atta! Noroi no Video, which is now getting to the point where I’m not sure even the people making these things could tell you what number they originally thought the series would reach, but here we are, with Honto ni Atta! Noroi no Video 117 arriving in Japan on September 2 on DVD, and maybe digital release too?

More ‘Real’ Footage
The new volume once again collects newly submitted psychic footage from across Japan, with the series continuing its documentary-style approach , with one of the segments being “Continued: Backrooms”, a continuation of a segment released in the last volume.
The whole thing runs for 65 minutes, giving viewers another fairly compact collection of supposedly unexplained incidents rather than some massive feature-length investigation, and yes, the series is still going with the whole “this footage was submitted by ordinary people” angle, which is obviously a big part of what makes these things work.

27 Years of Cursed Videos
What’s probably more impressive than anything in the trailer is the fact that this series has now been going for 27 years, because the original Honto ni Atta! Noroi no Video arrived back in 1999 and the franchise has somehow continued releasing new volumes ever since, with 117 being the latest collection of supposedly real supernatural footage.
That’s a ridiculous amount of cursed footage by any standard, and while these movies aren’t necessarily going to be for everyone, if you like Japanese psychic-video horror, found footage horror or those wonderfully strange releases that exist almost entirely outside the mainstream international horror market, this is exactly the sort of thing worth keeping an eye on.
You will have a lot to catch up on too, because a lot of segments follow on from previous entries in older releases, so this series will certainly keep you busy for a good while.
